Augustin Ramírez - Guitar


Augie is originally from Austin and has been playing guitar for over 30 years. He is a member of the contemporary choir at St. Ignatius Catholic Church and also plays for mass at San Jose Catholic Church.  Augie is the founder of Mariachi Carta Blanca and has played with several groups throught his musical career, including rock-n-roll bands, mariachi bands, trios, and tejano bands. Mariachi Carta Blanca gets its name from the conjunto band, "Carta Blanca," that Augie's father Roman Ramirez played with throughout Augie's childhood. Augie currently works for the city government. 



 

 
 

Leonel Zuñiga - Vihuela


Leo is originally from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico and has been living in Austin for over 15 years. He has been playing guitar for more than 10 years during which he has learned about various genres including rock, pop, country, and his most recent passion, mariachi music. Leo has also studied voice and singing with a professional opera coach and singer. 

 

Lita Hernández - Guitarrón


Lita is a native Austinite who spent her formative years as a musician playing folk and contemporary guitar music at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.  When the church began offering Spanish Mass and needed a mariachi group to lead the music, Lita jumped at the opportunity to learn to play vihuela, which had always been her favorite instrument in the mariachi ensemble.  Lita has since taught herself to play guitarron, and enjoys playing stringed instruments of all kinds, including mandolin, charango, and ukulele.  When Lita is not pursuing her passion for music and music ministry, she is dispensing medicine and advice as a community pharmacist. 

 
Anna María Méndez - Flute

Anna is a native Austinite and has been playing flute for over 20 years.  Anna was a member of the University of Notre Dame Marching Band, the Notre Dame Symphonic Winds and Symphony Orchestra, and various other chamber and ensemble groups throughout high school, college, and law school.  She also studied flute and musicianship in the prestigious high school summer program at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan. Anna is an attorney and enjoys working as a trust administrator specializing in trusts for individuals with special needs and disabilities.
 
Tony Flores - Violin

Tony is also a native Austinite and has been playing the violin for more than 25 years.  Tony has experience playing many different genres of music, including
Jazz, liturgical, classical, and of course, mariachi music.  Throughout middle school and high school, Tony studied violin under the renowned Austin musician and educator, Zeke Castro.  Tony plays with the English and Spanish choir groups at St. Paul's Catholic Church and works for the United Parcel Service. 



Robert Alemán - Trumpet


Robert was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley where he attended McAllen High School.  He is a graduate of Southwest Texas State in San Marcos.  While attending college,  Robert played trumpet in the Bobcat Marching Band for two years.   In July of 2007,  he began playing the Mariachi music that he had enjoyed listening to for many years. 
 

Edward Nuñez - Trumpet


Ed is also a native Austinite and has been playing trumpet for over 30 years. Ed comes from a family of professional musicians and played in a local tejano band for several years.  He also played with music legend Manuel "Cowboy" Donnelly. Ed is a long-time employee with the U.S. Postal Service.
